We are an Evangelical Church and believe that God’s love, expressed in Jesus, is available to everyone. We are a mixture of ages, races and backgrounds and all are welcome to join us.
We are a member church of the Baptist Union of Great Britain.
We are located close to the University of Southampton and are always pleased to offer a home from home to students, especially those from overseas.
As a church, we support the work of “SCRATCH” - Southampton City and Region Action to Combat Hardship. Gifts of tinned and packet food are welcomed on Communion Sundays . These are passed on to the Basics Bank, operated by Southampton City Mission, for distribution to those in need.
We are joined in Love Swaythling & Bassett with a number of local churches and organisations in the area to witness and meet together. We are also members of the Southampton Christian Network and link up with the other Baptist churches in Southampton as part of the Southampton cluster. We support the work of our local Street Pastors and Hope Now together with members living in East Asia. We enjoy each other's company and particularly enjoy sharing meals together. We aim to ensure that all the tea and coffee served in our church is fairly traded.
Our Vision Statement: “SBC is a local Christ centred community seeking to live together with patience, kindness and respect; forgiving one another in love; working out our faith in service; building bridges for God's grace to all people.”
This Vision Statement is supported and grounded by our life values:
Seeking to share our faith, through our “crossing places.”
Walking with the Lord and seeking to do His will, not ours – prepared to take risks.
Accountable, to our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Yearning to become more Christ –like and desiring to bring Him into every aspect of our lives.
Together – worshipping, learning, working, sharing, laughing, weeping.
Healing and caring for those in need – who walk through our doors and outside.
Locally based outreach to our immediate neighbours and the wider community, with a focus on Mansbridge, and involvement with the other local churches.
Inclusive and welcoming – an “All Sorts” church, seeking to enable those who come to find their purpose in God’s Kingdom and to feel valued and loved.
Nurturing and disciple making – aiming to equip and support Christians for service wherever the Lord calls.
Grounded in the Biblical truth that sets us free.
